On the Road: Matt in NYC

January 28, 2008

Here’s a report from Matt:

Matt in front of the XANADU theater

Hi there, cabaret blog buddies. I made a quick trip up to New York this weekend to see Ron Squeri’s debut at The Duplex in his cabaret show, Haunted Heart. Ron did a great job and I was very proud of him.

While in New York, I managed to see a couple of shows: A matinee of XANADU, which I thought was quite hilarious. And then an evening show of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, which was devastatingly wonderful. We had front row seats for AUGUST and it felt like we spent 3-1/2 hours in that family’s living room. Oy.

Double Entendre Big

Matt posts:

“Dean and I had a blast today! We did a photo shoot for our upcoming cabaret show, Double Entendre. We posed with different props and attitudes for a few hours. When we were all finished, the shots we seemed to like had a Terry-Richardson-Does-Cabaret feel to them, LOL! We have not chosen a final shot yet (which we will use to publicize the show), but we have a dozen or so favorites so far.”

Dean and Matt are performing in the upcoming D.C. Cabaret Network (DCCN) Member Showcase, at The Arts Club on Sunday, February 10th.

More info about this performance can be found at the DCCN’s blog.

They’ll each have separate performance spots in the show.

Matt and Dean were in the audience watching last year’s Member Showcase and we both agree it is a fantastic night where, in one sitting, you get to see a cross-section of D.C.’s cabaret talent. We’re both excited that, this year, we get to be on stage performing.

Dean and Matt agree that this short performance opportunity will be a great “warm up” for our show in March!

Dean and Matt have decided on the name of their two-man cabaret show:

“Double Entendre”

Isn’t that neat? We looked it up on Wikipedia, which said, “A double entendre is a figure of speech similar to the pun, in which a spoken phrase can be understood in either of two ways.”

In our case (as you will see), a sung phrase can be understood two ways as well!

Plus, there’s two of us doing the show … like double. Like “double entendre”.

On top of that, there’s also a a risque, even sexual element to double entendre. We can’t promise anything titillating, but we’ll do our best in that department, LOL.

So that’s our explanation of the new, fabulous title for our show.

Here’s the basic info (in case you’re visiting our blog for the first time) about our upcoming show:
